Before you start your next project with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, make sure you have a reference to this blog post. This will guarantee that any issues encountered will be resolved quickly and efficiently. If you're starting from scratch, or just want to refresh your memory of how Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate is set up, then this blog post is for you. In it I'll run through the basic info on installing and configuring VS2010 for use by developers who work remotely while providing a summary of its features. Because VS2010 Ultimate is such a rich and stable IDE for Visual Studio, I decided to make it my recommended base when setting up a development environment. To do this I've taken the time to create a setup package that provides everything in one download: VS2010 for Windows (MSI package) and the associated product key (MSI x86-x64) VS2010 Ultimate SDK, which includes ADK content Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate SDK (with ADK's installed) and the associated product key (MSI x86-x64) Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2010 (x64-redistributable). http://www.microsoft. com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 Note: I've removed the setup package for the C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2010 (x64) because of it's size (3.5GB). You can download them separately from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 Please note, any missing components will be installed by the setup packages listed above. Once installed, you'll have full access to all of VS2010's features and can skip to step 5 if you'd like to configure VS2010 for your remote development needs immediately. Step 1: Install VS2010 Note: The following instructions pertain to installing VS2010 Ultimate . If you would like to install the Standard edition, see the basic setup instructions provided below (step 3 is optional). For this blog post I've used the 64-bit editions of VS2010 Ultimate. However, these instructions will work for any version of Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, including v141.0 Build 52127 (released July 12th 2010). It's also worth noting that you don't need an Internet connection to download and install the installer. Simply download it to your local hard drive and run it there. Download the installer file at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8580 If you're interested in other editions of VS2010, such as the Professional and Standard editions, then click here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=927F9EF9-C6A3-4B57-9234-33883EAD4D18&displaylang=en After downloading the installer, run it and follow the instructions Note: The following instructions pertain to installing VS2010 Ultimate (Full) . cfa1e77820
